about

Traditional Lubavitch nigun similar to the well-known Passover song “Ekhad Mi Yodeah (Who Knows About One)”. The Yiddish line is taken from a related folk spiritual counting-rhyme “Mu Adabru Mu Asapru”. The intro (“Buzz! Our funny-class is starting!”) is a quotation from the Soviet edutainment radio show “Radionyanya (Radio-Nanny)”, performed by Aleksandr “Sasha” Livshits, an artist and reciter, who emigrated to the US in 1979, Aleksandr “Alik” Levenbuk, the director of the Moscow Jewish Theater Shalom since 1987, and featuring “Nikolay Vladimirovich” Litvinov, as the teacher. In some verses here, Psoy is imitating Nikolay Litvinov, the famous folk-tale narrator and the number one voice in Soviet children’s productions of the 1970s. Psoy: “I want this song to bring my thanks, greetings and warm feelings to Michael Chlenov, from whom I first learned it, in a slightly different musical version, in 2007”.
